What problem this solves
“Add a plant and call it biophilic” is the lazy version. The 14 Patterns framework is rigorous, but most online tools treat all 14 as equally weighted and produce an inflated score for any room with a fiddle-leaf fig. This tool applies weights derived from published wellbeing studies so the number tells you whether the room genuinely supports stress reduction and cognitive recovery.
Who it’s for
- Designers targeting WELL or LBC biophilic credits
- Healthcare and office designers quantifying nature connection
- Researchers benchmarking before/after biophilic interventions
Limitations
- Scoring is subjective at the 0–3 level
- Pattern weights are best-available estimates; effect sizes vary across studies
- Individual responses to biophilic features vary (e.g. some people dislike plants)
- Score does not substitute for a measured cortisol or attention test
